FABRIC COVERED PHOTO MATS

I've had this idea pinned forever,

knowing that someday I'd use it somewhere.  Well, someday for this project came yesterday!

This little wall in my kitchen used to have some vintage type botannical prints,

but with my big botanical gallery wall across the room, I was ready for a change.  I'm the main person that sees this spot all day long, so I wanted some fun candid shots of my favorite little people when they were littler.

This could not be a simpler project!  I dug out 4 mats that I wasn't using anymore and found some fabric scraps that I cut to size.  Then, I used spray adhesive to cover the front of the mat and covered it with the fabric piece.

When using spray adhesive it's easier if you work with a small section at a time, so I rolled the fabric up and got the top edge straight and in place, then just rolled the rest out smoothing it down as I went.

Then, I cut out the middle, leaving enough to wrap around to the back, and cut a line right up to the edge of each corner-this will give you four sections to fold back.

Apply a quick line of hot glue along one section, wrapping tightly from the front to the back.  I was especially careful to get a drop of glue right in the corners, so when I wrapped and glued the corner would be nice and flat and sharp.  I always use my low-temp glue gun for projects like this..it saves my fingertips from being seared off!

All done!  I just used a few pieces of frog tape to secure my photos and and popped everything back together using this method.

And, it's officially a pain to photograph a frame with glass in it!  Bonus points if you can spot the Christmas ornaments still hanging from the antlers in the hall.  Why can't I remember to take those down?

This would be such a fun project for kids rooms, an office, or a gallery wall and using a graphic or animal print would make it really stand out!

  6. I'd rather look at those cuties than botanicals, too! Great idea to add a fun print, and so easy to change out when you're up for something new ~ not that you'd ever do that! :)
